2013 Garden Planning

I've ordered SOME seeds, but am still planning on what else I should order. At this point I've ordered the below seeds. I have not grown any of them before. I'm hoping for large quanties of tomatoes to make spaghetti sauce, salsa, etc. from the Amish paste tomatoes.

Garden update November 17, 2012

The Swiss chard and collard greens are doing great! I know they'll stop growing bigger soon and I'll have to over winter them under the hoop house though. I'm surprised they haven't froze yet we have had temperatures in the high 30's.

The green manure is doing well. It has started flowering so we are going to till it under today.

Fall Garden 2012

I had all sorts of great stuff planned. Toscano Kale, 4 different types of carrots, broccoli, etc. Then I realized I need to replenish and "rest" the soil a little. So I planted "Green Manure". It is growing very well. I purchased the "Fall Green Manure Mix" from Johnny Seeds.

I have it in some spots but I'm also growing a few things. Most of which I started from seeds inside before summer was over. We had our first nasty storm, they made it through. These pictures were taken today after the storm:

Diablo Brussels Sprouts:
I've never grown them I hope they do well.

Kohlrabi:
I've never grown it either wish me luck! I've got the beginnings of one.

Georgia Vates Collard Greens:
We LOVE them!!

Bright Lights Swiss Chard:
Yummy!

I also planted seeds directly into the ground. I am not sure how they will do. I'm hoping to get tasty treats before winter.

Beet Sprouts:

Parsnip Sprouts:

Turnip Sprouts:

The Prostrate Rosemary I planted to attract pollinators (bees, etc.) is still working hard!

Fall garden prep

The collard green, and Swiss chard seedlings are ready to plant. To bad it's still 100 degrees outside.. Time to yank the summer garden, try to properly amend the soil, and plant the fall garden soon.

Canning

My garden is producing mass quantities of tomatoes and jalapeƱos! I wanted to learn to can, and can salsa this year but I incorrectly estimated how many plants I would need. Next year I will plant less. Here are a few harvest, and canning pictures.

Garden Update 4/29/12

Today we raised the hoops over the indeterminate tomatoes (they usually get MUCH taller than the determinate ones). Then I staked the indeterminate tomatoes, I had already staked the determinate ones on Friday because they only need a short stake. Everyone seems to be doing well:

Overview

Indeterminate tomatoes

Martian Giant Slicer Tomato

Super Sweet 100 cherry tomato
(the one I overwintered in the house)

Roma Tomato

 Borage

 Mucho Nacho Jalapeno

 Zucchini!! costata romanesco variety

 LOTS of artichokes!

One of my lady bugs doing her thing!
(I released several on Friday hoping they
would help me with my aphid problem)

 Red Kidney Bean
Something is trying to eat them before they can even get started!
